Progress | Week 5


Monday - Nothing.

Didn't get anything done on this day (Personal stuff came up) + School.

Tuesday - Cosmetics

I stated to work on a cosmetics for the character since I would set up an item system to start with and then build up to a inventory. It's currently only support manual input on what the player should wear but will add in the feature so you get items to equip instead. I haven't setup it fully but need a way to do it better and more efficient. Click here for screenshot of a early prototype of it. Here is another hat that is not meant to be a hat but just for showing how it works. I plan to just have a number in a database that saves the players currently equipped item (Only for cosmetics) with an id and load that in to the player when joining the server next time. The only problem with the system I'm working on is that really need to think how It will make so I have a better workflow for creating items in the future. So I really need to make it flexible so I don't need to rework it. Since I really don't wanna do something then just rework everything if I have come far into that part. I worked on a system to change the current sprite for the hat, clothes and shoes through commands that will later also change the item in inventory slot for that type. Here a prototype screenshot. End of the day progress: I fixed so everything with the items system works but need to fix so the item sprites animates with the character animation. I know doing it this way will do so If I need something new there is a lot of work to do if another item adds to the collection. I have planed to make one sprite file for all animations and just get the sprite needed and display that and have another without the body and just the clothes. I know I shouldn't focus on cosmetics this early in development but I'm a person that often pushes away stuff to do it later but don't do it at all. Plus I really don't want to start on the inventory but I need it to get into the next big leap.

Wednesday - New Name.

I have started to look into animations for the character cosmetics I also decided to remake the current character to a new style but still maintain the style ceijdo did. I choose to remake it since if I want to change the sprite to more fit the type of game I'm making since the old animations looks plain and don't feels right.  Here is a screenshot on how the new sprite looks currently without animations (It still need some work). I worked on a system that allows me to split up every sprite then just use the sprite I want to display on the character and I think it looks good for a first try. Here take a look.
I decided to change name on this project to Endorblast instead of Fat Valley.

Thursday - YouTube Devlog (Here)

I started to work on the inventory I wasn't sure how I would do it, so I looked up how I could make a inventory simple. I don't want to set up a database for items for now. I will just have to have items not store anywhere at the time. I didn't do much else in this day. I also made a introduction to my game on my YouTube channel. I will try to upload every month with a new devlog.

Friday - Starting on the Inventory!

I finally started on the inventory I got a system that I can build upon but it's not finished. Here is how it looks. I will definitely work on the UI on a later date but for now I am just testing to send a item from the server to the clients Inventory. I plan to do a system so I can type commands to send all registered users a item to something like a mailbox for the player to claim. But won't be adding that yet. I also worked on a walking cycle for the character. Here is how it looks.
